Science Lab

Hello this is Isabella I'm the class blogger this week! So is Jillian but she isn't here but she's awesome! This week of school was very fun! We did a awesome science experiment on Tuesday it was the best we had a hot bowl of water and then a cup of cold water. Then we put food coloring in the cup and predict what would happen! Have a great Labor day weekend!!!!!!! :)

FROM MRS. R.

It's been a great week in 6R.  Students now have a over a full week under their belts and a sense of how classes and transitions go.  We are getting better at routines and organization with fewer reminders.  Students jumped right into Religion class at the beginning - Genesis - to see our great and loving Creator had a plan for our salvation right from the start.  For a complete overview of Religion- Unit 1, see the tab above.

Some other units of study to begin the year:

 S.S.  -  Mapping skills
Lit.   - Fiction vs. NonFiction
Math - properties, basic operations, word problems
English - Sentence parts and prepositions Science- Earth science Art - Line and Space

BOOK ORDERS
Book orders are due on Friday - either by an online order (class code GV2FP) or by sending in the paper form and a check.  A new online feature:  if you place book orders for siblings, you can order online for all siblings at once and assign books to be delivered to different classroom orders.  Online orders earn YOU a free book.

Thanks!

A big thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our Back to School Night.  Please don't hesitate to contact me throughout the year as we partner together in the education of your child.  If you were unable to attend, look for a packet of information to come home today.  A couple quick notes:
  • email is my best contact  - I keep my cell off during the school day
  • there are no Shepherding families this year - please continue to be welcoming to our new families as they get to know the Zion routine and events throughout the year

Welcome to 6th Grade

Hello, Isabella and Julie are the class Blogger's for this week! We had a great first day of school!
We learned that there were class jobs, they are called iHelp. There are some like poem readers and joke readers and two people at a time can do the jobs but there is a couple more like the whiteboard cleaners. There is a lot more! We didn't have that much homework this week! All in the wonders of the sixth grade classroom! From Isabella and Julie! :)

 FROM MRS. R.

I am so excited to have your children as my students this year. Our school theme gives a wonderful focus for our year:

I Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

This year through our theme, we will explore how we can come to God in prayer in many ways and at all times. We will look at how its not our circumstances that bring us joy, but knowing we are forgiven children of God.  With God on our side, we can accomplish anything!   I pray this school year gives you a renewed opportunity to grow in your faith: as a parent, as a student, and as a family.

I am eager to partner with you in both educating and nurturing your child this year. I encourage families to talk about lessons we learn, especially memory verses and Religion lessons. I look forward to seeing you in worship at Zion or hearing about your worship experiences at your home church as our class grows together in our faith walk. Together - student, family, and school – we can build each other in the Body of Christ! Please do not hesitate to contact me with your questions or insights throughout the year.

What's New in Grade 6?

One of my big goals in 6th grade is for students to become more independent in their learning. This news blog will update you on current happenings, but in 6th grade I no longer publish spelling words, memory assignments, or tests in the parent news.  These are things your child will be tracking in their assignment book.  If an individual student needs more organizational help, I will work one-on-one with that student.  I plan to publish this blog weekly on Fridays.

PTL Back to School Night

Mark your calendar: The PTL Back to School Night is Thurssday, August 28 at 6:30 p.m. This is an "adult only" information night.  Join me in my classroom to hear further information about the unique aspects of 6th grade.  I look forward to seeing you! See the Banner email for the session times.
