Week 38: And you shall be my witnesses....

What does Christ's command to his disciples mean to a sixth grader?  (Mt. 28:19-20, Acts 1:8)  This is the topic we explored in our last weeks of e-learning with our Contemporary Christian music devotions, watching Ascension and  Pentecost videos, and looking at challenges to our faith in witness opportunities. As the disciples were instructed to witness in first Jerusalem, then to the neighboring countryside, then to the ends of the earth, we Christians are encouraged to be witnesses where we are at: in our school, workplaces, and families then reach out, even to the ends of the earth.   Where do we get equipped for such a task?  In Word and Sacrament - with the fellowship of believers.

If you have gotten out of the habit of worship or devotional time with God - this is an opportunity for you, too, to be enriched by the Holy Spirit.  I encourage you to be involved in summer worship both at home and in your travels.  We don't know when we can gather TOGETHER as a fellowship of believers, but we, like the disciples, have the power of the Holy Spirit and can look for those opportunities for God to use us to spread his word!

The Apostle Paul gives  good advice to Timothy as a faithful young person.  Remember to Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”  from I Peter 3:15.  To be equipped for the task, students have been challenged to get INTO THE WORD:  to add a regular devotion time to their routine this summer. Please pray for the continued spiritual growth of our class beyond these walls!

Dear families:
Thank you for all of your support and partnership this year.  I have appreciated your prayers, your notes of encouragement, your time working with your child with at home learning and on projects, and I have appreciated your child.  It has been a pleasure being a part of your lives this year.  May God bless your family this summer!

                  In His Service,
                  Mrs. Riemenschneider

Week 37: E-learning Ends

Our last academic week has come to an end! We made it through E-learning and did it wonderfully! I am so proud of all of your kids for their hard work and dedication these last few weeks and this whole year too!

I wanted to say thank you to all the parents for your help and support throughout the year. Without you, the year would not have run as smoothly as it did. I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers this year. I’m especially thankful that I had the opportunity to have your child in my class and to have many experiences with them as well!

Keep Ms. Preusser in your prayers as she prepares for her upcoming wedding on June 6!
 She will be Mrs. Donner!

Next Week:
Please have students continue to check their emails on Monday and Tuesday morning. Ms. Preusser and I have some end of the year activities/surveys that we would like them to participate in. Activities are optional, but if they are bored, it would keep them entertained. We do want them to fill out the awards survey and the end of the year survey too.

Week 36: Thank You Parents and Students!

Wow! I am overwhelmed by your love and support this week and throughout our virtual learning.
How fun to have my doorbell ring over and over and to be able to greet so many of you in the
2 parades!!!  Thank you for all of the chocolates, cakes, cookies, flowers, gift cards and other
goodies!  Your appreciation is truly felt.   I am so blessed to be able to share in the growth and
nurture of your children.   I love and miss them all!!

As Mr. Debrick’s email indicated our last day of e-learning is May 15.  As one bright 6th grader
figured out, his teachers don’t give homework on Fridays, so our last assignments go out on
 THURSDAY!!

A couple of notes for you this week:

  1. Look for a link SUNDAY to sign up for LIVE MATH CLASSES Set those alarms.
I will not be able to do make up sessions this week. T-Math MONDAY 10 or 10:30
    G-Math TUESDAY 10 or 10:30
  2. Last academic day of school is May 15.
  3. AR is due May 15 by 3pm.
  4. The week of May 18 we will be doing fun activities and end of the year items to close
out sixth grade. We will have a final ZOOM HOMEROOM CHAT that week.
    5. The week of June 1st will be the time to drop off books and pick up supplies.
Keep watching emails for your time slot in the coming weeks.
Literature grades- Ms. Preusser and I decided to downgrade the Tuck Test
to equal weight at the Tuck project (a double homework grade).  Since it ended up being
the only Lit test this quarter, that seemed to be the best option to balance out all of our
    other e-learning work.

Week 35: May begins

Check out the beautiful sidewalk art from Aubrey.  Thanks for sharing!

Was your internet as wacky as mine on Friday?   Please understand that teachers are totally flexible!
I am adjusting for students who can’t get onto Khan Academy or can’t see Pearson videos or who
are at a grandparent’s house without internet or who are helping with younger siblings while
mom/dad work.  All of us know this has been such an unusual way to learn and teach.  We are
making forward progress!  We are growing in ways we never knew we needed to grow!   I am talking
more personally with kids than we ever may have in the classroom.

Look for a school email Monday with End of the Year information:  turn in books, pick up supplies,
graduation information, etc.  One note on grading – a decision was made to not count Art, PE,
Spelling, Memory, band/music/choir for the 4th quarter.  If something was entered from the first
week of the quarter, it will “disappear” from Sycamore.

Scholastic Book Orders – I will place one last book order on Monday.  It’s a great way to stock up
on summer reading! See our class code and the link on the right.

LIVE CLASSES Next week- Either by Zoom or Google Hangouts links
Watch parent and student email for signup to come out SUNDAY.

Students will need to sign up for:

T Math Monday 9:30-9:50 or 10:00-10:20
             Thursday 9:30-9:50 or 10:00-10:20

GMath Monday 11:00-11:20 or 11:30-11:50

ENGLISH - Mixed classes - various times will be sent out for Wednesday morning.

As always, we will have some social chats as well.  : )

Please email me with any questions or concerns!
