Dec 20, 2022

         By Korrinne and Elizabeth

This week we had a lot of fun doing the different dress up days.

Monday was Pj day, Tuesday was christmas chaos, Wednesday

was red or green shirt day. On monday we got to do an escape

room. On Tuesday we went to the gym and played poor poor puppy.

Wednesday we had our classroom party. It was a great week for all

of us. We also watched the nativity scene movie on Monday and on

 Tuesday. The end.

 From Mrs. R:

It's been a fast paced week, with several tests, Among the Hidden presentations, watching

The Nativity Story in Religion, and a bit of fun mixed in - ask your kids about the dice game

called Chicken.  Today we had a special Christmas worship led by the 8th grade and

Kindergarten focusing on the blessing of Jesus, no matter how mixed up Christmas might be.

THANKS ROOM PARENTS for the great food at our party!  If anyone is inspired to lead the

classroom auction gifts, let me know!!

I pray you and your family are able to have a restful and worshipful holiday.  Jesus came

to bring peace, love, and joy.  May we reflect the wonder of knowing He saves us!

Merry Christmas!

Week 15: Mid quarter & Art Display

Dec 9, 2022

By Darren and Mia

This week we had a library on Monday. We played basketball in gym

on Tuesday. On Wednesday we had a late Chapel at 10:00 to watch the

3rd and 4th graders advent service. We made $334.80 in offering money

this week bringing our total to $1,033.35. This money is going to pay for

heating bills. We have paid for 10 bills so far. We started a new art

project on Friday. Our dress down days for christmas start next friday.

From Mrs. R

Monday officially marked the MidQuarter of 2nd quarter. It is a good time

to check in with your child and help them set goals for the week and a half

of Dec. and the beginning of January. Highly encourage them to finish that

AR book, clean out that binder, and start using that planner again! Need

stocking stuffer ideas? School supplies of pencils and red pens - they are

 running low.

With the Advent service and number of absences, I do not have Sycamore

updated today, but will by Monday. Thanks for you patience!

Week 14: All About Waiting...

Dec 2, 2022

By Kipton + Darren

This week we had our advent service, one at 10:00 and one at 7:00.

We had a great time doing it. We had two tests and one quiz: memory,

english, and science. In gym we played basketball. We have been working

on our Christmas art, it is coming together beautifully. We also had our

photography art this week. Mrs. Donner left this week to have her baby.

Lots of people want to see it and wonder what his name is going to be.

Mrs. Arens is her sub, she is also Nick’s mom.

From Mrs. R   It's been a busy time!!!

In Devotions we have been using the idea of a Jesse tree, where each ornament reminds us about God's work in our lives and the wait for God's perfect timing - both in the sending of his Son as our savior and the wait for his return to take us to our heavenly home.  Even these big kids are still thrilled to light the candle on our advent wreath each morning.    Plus we have an Advent Trivia calendar helping us count down the days!

In Religion we are beginning our walk through the New Testament with the Gospel of Matthew.  We are discovering how Jesus came at the "just right" time.  See the Religion tab above for more of our new unit.

Other units:
Soc. Studies:  Environmental issues

Science:  Cells

G Math - Order of Operations with exponents and variables

T Math  - Beginning algebraic expressions and the Order of Operations

Note: all students benefit from math facts review.  I encourage the games on ReadyMath or Prodigy as they building in facts practice and conceptual reasoning in fun ways.  Playing board and card games involving counting/adding are great activities too.

Literature: novel study:

WHAT IF...

...the government could force you to sell land?

...we had laws on what you could grow on your farm? or that said NO PETS ALLOWED?

...your family was limited to one or two children?

Would you exist?

I hope talks about our Literature novel have popped up in your family conversations.  Students began the novel, Among the Hidden by Margaret Petersen Haddix, and I have to put a STOP sign in the novels to get them to put it down.  Through the novel we discuss literary elements like characterization and conflict, but also propaganda, morals, and faith.  It also coordinates with our next  S.S. unit on Urban Sprawl

CHRISTMAS PARTIES will be hosted on Dec 21 before a NOON DISMISSAL.   We will serve a pizza,  so the students will not need lunch that day.   Our party will be from 10:30-11:45 a.m..  Want to help with  the party??  Please email me!!
