Week 11 Red Ribbon Week

10-25-24

By: Reese and Lucy

This week we had a birthday. It was Ethan's birthday and we had oreos.

It was also spirit week/red ribbon week. On Monday it was pajama day,

on Tuesday it was movie character day, on Wednesday it was superhero

day, on Thursday it was 1980’s day, and on Friday it was super spirit day.

The STUCO people went to teach other grades in the school about drugs

and being drug free. They put together a slideshow for different grades.

We had Josh and Ethan teach our class about drugs and we did a fun

jeopardy.  The STUCO also counted up the people that dressed up for

battle of the classes. Elle won the raffle prize with a cup and some other

fun things. A bunch of the STUCO members said STUCO stuff on the announcements to remind us what to dress up for, and other reminders to

stay drug free. Hayden said the prayer on the announcements on

Wednesday and he did amazing. He was loud and clear. We had a quiz

on english and a quiz on social studies, on Friday. Overall it was an

amazing week in 6R. Thank you for checking up on the blog. :)

From Mrs. R -

Happy Reformation!  Blessings to the Confirmands!

The Luther Seal: Summary of the Gospel - Lutheran Reformation
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther posted 95 theses on the local church "bulletin board" calling people to debate the truth of the Bible and how the church had strayed from that truth.  Our class is learning about Luther's life as well as the amazing discovery he made:  WE ARE SAVED BY GOD'S GRACE  - not by good works or money or penance.  This led to a reform of the church and the creation of Protestant churches around the world.

We have read a biography of Luther written as if Luther visited

sixth  graders at a Lutheran school and ate lunch with them for the week, modeled after the Table Talks Luther actually had with students for much of his life.  We are also using clips from the Luther Movie made in 2003.  Though there are some fictional details added, the heart of the movie shows Luther's struggle to understand God and share with the world about God's love.  (Note if you watch- the movie is PG-13 for some violence and language.  Sections for class have been selected as appropriate for students and our study.)  We made our modern "social media" videos hat students used to spread Scripture that refutes the false teaching of Luther's day.

We will wrap up our Reformation study next week!

This weekend our eighth graders at Zion Church are being confirmed in their faith at the 10:30 worship service. Blessings as they confirm the faith they have recieved by God's GRACE!

Week 8 A Visit to PreSchool (10/4)

By Hannah and Logan

This week  we went to play with Mrs. Thomas’s preschool students.

We got to play outsidewith them, and we got to eat snacks with them.

The girls 6th grade volleyball team won both of their games. On

Tuesday they went up against Green park and we won the game. And

on Thursday they went up against CCLS and they won that game too.

The Jv black soccer team won their game against CCLS. In literature we

finished reading a new story called “The King of Mazy May”. It was such

a good story. We had a great week in 6R! Thanks for checking out the blog!

P.S. from Mrs. R:

Students enjoyed being introduced to the writings of Jack London

and are following in his footsteps as a news reporter during the Alaskan

Gold Rush in summarizing the events of the "King of Mazy May,"

Last day for AR tests is Thursday and the Quarter ends on Friday.

Looking forward to our conference together on 10/17.
