Where are we headed?
Weldon
Springs Interpretive Center: We will earn about environmental clean up and stewardship of
our natural habitats. This previews
our S.S. study of the Great Lakes Ecosystem and environmental awareness.
St.
Charles Lanes: A type of physical education not provided by Zion.
We
will leave from campus shortly after 9:30 a.m. Students will need to
bring a cold lunch with a drink, and wear jeans, comfortable walking
shoes, and a red Zion spirit shirt. A JACKET/SWEATSHIRT is required as the weather looks like it will be cool. Students may also bring binoculars for
our hike up the "mound" of rocks.
Wrapping up the Quarter
Your child brought home your scheduled time for our parent teacher conference on October 16. Please either EMAIL me confirmation or return the attached signature slip. (I know sometimes those little papers get lost.)
Before our meeting time, please click here to complete a quick survey to help me plan our time together. Take
some time to talk with your child and respond to the questions. I will pass along comments to Mrs. Murray, so feel free to share
thoughts about Math as well. I feel so blessed to be part
of your child's education and I am eager to team with you as we set
goals for the rest of 6th grade!
Walkathon ends - Christmas Project begins
As the last of the donations come in, we are awaiting to hear the exciting numbers for our project for Operation Christmas Child. Today, information on the second phase of this service project came home. It seems early to be talking about Christmas gifts - but as our project needs to be shipped 4 weeks prior to Christmas, we are starting now.
At Zion, we do not participate in a gift exchange at our class Christmas party. Rather each class adopts a project and asks each student to personally contribute to someone in need. For the Junior High, that will be gathering some of the contents of the boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We will be using the funds from the walkathon to purchase all of the extras to fill the boxes (soap, toothbrushes, etc). Please consider purchasing one or several items from the list that came home Friday. This is an opportunity for the students to put a personal touch on their gifts. We will be writing letters of greeting and witness together in class on packing day. Items can be brought in between now and November 7.
Slide Show of Joseph (before there was powerpoint)
Class blogger: Ella H.
Class Photographer: Sam V.
This week in religion we acted out the story of Joseph. We divided into
groups and acted out five scenes, such as how the brothers sold
Joseph. In art, we are working on a project where we have a picture of
an animal, and we have to camouflage it in our artwork. On Friday, the
seventh and eighth graders were gone, so we got to sit at different
lunch tables, and do the older kids' jobs. It was a pretty good week.
