What's happening in 6th grade?

Devotions- Students are exploring Contemporary Christian songs to find themes that relate to lives of young people today.  They are learning to connect Scripture to real life.  Partners or individuals will lead our class devotions for the rest of the year.

Religion - We are following the witness of the apostles in the Book of Acts .  As we end the year, students will practice witnessing skills and preview the history of Lutherans from Germany coming to Missouri in preparation for our field trip on the 22nd.

Literature -  We wrap up the year with  stories of oral tradition.  Do you have any stories that have been passed down in your family?  What a great way to share family history, the culture of what is what like "back when I was a kid,"  and stories of faith to your children.  We will end with Greek mythology.

English - Research papers are complete!  I am enjoying the wonderful information the students discovered as I work my way through the stack.  We are now on to pronouns.

Social Studies -  Exploring the European Union and learning to evaluate political cartoons.

Science - Electricity!

Thank You!

Thank you all for the goodies, candles, gift cards and words of support for Teacher Appreciation Week.  Thank you especially for sharing your child with me this year.  It is a true joy to see them grow in knowledge, maturity, and faith!  I am truly blessed to teach at Zion.

 A Devotional Moment

Mrs. Lail shared this link to a devotion based on our theme verse.  Though it from a mom's point of view, I think the message rings true for all parents.  Take a moment with God.  I hope you are as blessed as I was when I read it.   Finding Joy in Uplanned Circumstances

Civil War Day

We were invited to join 4th and 5th grade for part of
their Civil War day on Monday.  Stepping out of
our regular class schedule was a nice treat!
Can you see Austin's enthusiasm to share during Civil War trivia?
Sam W. helped identify the states of the Confederacy

Mr. Doelling set up a huge display of hand painted Civil War figures

A Civil War re-enactor from a cavalry unit brought her horse.  She is a sister of one of our members.

The kids were so excited about the horse (and the dog)

Mr. Vukovich, another Zion member, is a re-enactor in an artillery division
We learned about the artillery and how different weapons were used

Getting our own look at Mr. Doelling's display (You may know him as the S.S. superintendent)

Each unit had its flag
