Week 36: Thank You

Thank you for all of the gifts, goodies, gift cards, and words of support for Teacher Appreciation Week.  Thank you especially for sharing your child with me this year.  It is a true joy to see them grow in knowledge, maturity, and faith!  I am blessed to teach at Zion!

Year End Field Trip -

Please remember to send in field trip forms Monday if you have not yet and include the $7 lunch fee.  Several students brought in the signed permission slips, but still need the fee.  We need to get one check ready for the trip.

Also - if your child may get carsick on a bus ride, please have them take any needed medication in the morning and let me know so we can seat them accordingly on the bus.

Friday, May 12 will be our Lutheran Heritage Field trip.  This is an extended day, arriving at 6:40 a.m. and returning at 5:30 p.m. that evening.  Please mark your calendars accordingly.  We will be studying immigration, geneology, and the history of Lutherans in our area.  Our day will include a trip to the Altenburg Museum and Saxon Lutheran Memorial in Frohna, MO.  This is a colonial homestead where students will learn about the first Lutheran settlers, tour the homestead, and have an opportunity for trying chores such as laundry and grinding corn.  Our day includes seeing the first Concordia Seminary and a one room schoolhouse.

A great conversation can take place when comparing modern media such as "Pretty Little Liars",  or "Friends" - which is back "in" with young people, modern music, and then "classic" family shows "I Love Lucy", "Full House", "Family Matters", and "Fresh Prince."  What a difference in the conflicts, consequences, and how people deal with problems. What a difference in how families are portrayed.  When we listen to music, watch shows, or play video games it can affect us emotionally, even when we don't agree with the message.  Not all media is bad, but we need to be careful about what we put into our minds and hearts.  God has called us as parents to help our children make wise decisions and set boundaries for them.  (under the websites tab, see CommonSenseMedia for help)

In response to the media discussion in Thrive: Best Choice, we took 2 days of Religion to explore contemporary Christian music.  Students are picking a song and writing a devotion with application to our lives from the music they discover which they will lead during our last weeks.

Faith Family Field Day

On Friday, May 19th, students in grades 1-8 will participate in a “Faith Family Field Day”.  We will eat a picnic lunch, play games, and have one last fun time with our Faith Families!  Zion will be providing cheese pizza from Dominos, goldfish crackers, and Oreos for the picnic lunch.  If your child does not want that lunch or is unable to eat that lunch due to allergies, (or needs a little extra) please have your child bring a cold lunch on Friday, May 19th.  Your child will also be spending the afternoon out in the sun, so please apply sunscreen in the morning before your child comes to school.  Thanks!

Last week's Fundraiser - Glad we had the one warm, dry day!

We had lots of support - especially with the younger students!
