Week 3: Life in 6th grade & Living Stones

From the class blogger, Henry B.

This week we wrote an essay from a different characters p.o.v. from the story Drive in Movies.  We got to read our essays in front of the class.  Another fun thing we did was make texture burgers.  We brought in different materials to make a big burger in art.  We got to play volleyball this week in P.E. class.  We practiced serves and volleys and got to play a game.

Faith Families

This week we had our first faith family activity.  Faith families are groups of students mixed from grades 1-8 who sit together in chapel, pray, worship, and do service projects together.  Our devotion was about being Living Stones.  Each of us is a living stone alive in the Lord and together we make a spiritual house dedicated to the worship of our Lord.  We spent time decorating a stone for an outdoor art reminder that we are living stones and we stand on Christ.  We then returned to chapel to celebrate Baptismal Remembrance for July, August, and September.

Chapel Offering and 6th Grade Gum Drive

This year our chapel offerings will go to sponsor the local group, Friends of Kids with Cancer.  We are excited to share our blessings and help make life a little brighter for children with these struggles. Offerings will go toward big expenses.  Our class has decided to also do something now as a class and bring in all varieties of gum to send to the organization.  Gum is a simple think that makes taking medicine more palatable.  Please consider buying a few packs or a big bag that we can donate.  We will collect for the next 2 weeks.

Other highlights of the week:

Religion:  Law/Gospel, PATH prayers for announcements, Genesis: Creation - not evolution!!
2nd Steps:  Making friends, using empathy skills
Math: PEMDAS  (ask your child)
Social Studies:  Maps and map tools - grids, latitude/longitude, Earth/Sun relationship and how God created our seasons and climates

Field Trip Dates confirmed
Oct. 13 - Weldon Spring/St. Charles Lanes
Feb. 2 - Hidden Valley
