Here are a few of our current units:
Religion: Our study of what is in the Bible continued today with a look at the epistles. Knowing audience and author's purpose helped see the important messages the apostles had for early Christians and us today. We wrap up this unit next week.
2nd Step: Students discovered 3 styles of communication: passive, assertive, and aggressive and what each look like in words, tone, body language, and facial expressions.
Literature: Completed our unit on Fiction/Nonfiction with a look at author's perspective, tone, inferences and symbolism. We read a character sketch of Mark Twain written by his 13-year-old daughter, Susy. This will lead into writing our own character sketches as we begin viewing The Prince and the Pauper.
S.S. Today, we began our mapping lab of the world region: Canada and the United States. Nex week we continue exploring thematic maps and using global information systems which involve layering thematic maps to find information about physical features, climate, vegetation and how they affect population and economic activity.
TMath - Tested on decimals and decimal operations this week. Using fact families to understand how to use inverse operations to solve for a variable. We have LOTS of math vocabulary to learn!
GMath - Completing Ch. 2 on solving 1 step algebraic equations with an emphasis on how to take a word problem and write an equation that follows the story plot. Up next: Number Theory: Divisibility, Primes and Composites
ART: Photographer Ryan T. and blogger Calvin
On Friday - we started a new art project were we draw a bible scene from a different perspective like a bird. After school we have trunk or treat. (Apologies to Calvin. We ran short on time in homeroom today to add more to the blog)
We looked at Arch books to get inspired for a Bible story |
Art this week will have 3 layers to create the point of view: foreground, middle ground, background |
OK - so we had Art overlap due to Walkathon - our POP art will POP when we add the words - comic book style |
Enjoying Trunk or Treat |
