From the class bloggers Gideon S. and Katelyn D.
On Monday we had a Memory Meditation on the 2nd petition. We have started to memorize all of the petitions and everyone is doing well. On Tuesday T-Math had a math test. On Wednesday everyone had a Geography test and everyone did well on that. On Thursday in Geography we got to go outside and create a population circle. We had some orange paper friends that joined us as well. Friday G-Math had a test and we made paper mache hands. And some volunteers go help the first graders do the Kids Heart Challenge. If you donate 5 or more dollars you get to wear sweats to school and do an extra gym day next Friday. And if you donate 15 dollars you will get a free t-shirt to go along with your sweats day. The pictures below shows some of our fellow classmates making their paper mache hands. We made a sign language letter.
The bloggers missed another highlight - Science class stopping down to see the sausage making process! Kids got a change to see what internal organs looked like. A few brave souls ventured to touch them, too. Remember that Zion's Sausage Supper in this Sunday!

Permission Slip came home MARCH 1 - The Giver at LHS
Based on the novel by Lois Lowry
What's Happening in 6th Grade
Here's a few topics we are exploring:
Religion - Humiliation and
Exaltation of Jesus!! That's looking at Christ's nature as true God and
true Man, how he fulfilled the Law perfectly to be our substitute in
His death and in glory defeated the devil in His resurrection.
S.S. Our Asian studies move from
looking at the IT industry that connects American businesses to India,
to now exploring population issues. Our class simulated the rate of
population growth on Thursday and will now use China as a way to look at
how countries meet the challenges of large and growing populations. As
demographers we will use a lot of statistics, including 2018 country
data from our Junior Scholastic World Almanacs.
Math - G-Math wrapping up
ratios and unit rates. T-Math is getting into the meat of fraction operations. Grocery shopping for the
best buy based on unit rate and cooking (doubling recipes) are great
hands on ways to reinforce these concepts at home.
Lit. - Our nonfiction unit has
included essays on African Americans in baseball and Jackie Robinson.
We took time to study a bit of the Civil Rights Movement as we explored
informational articles. I hope you take the opportunity to talk about important moments in history and how we are all equal in God's eyes. After our Civil Rights video we watched Speak Life by contemporary Christian artist, Toby Mac.
We are now reading a Lincoln biography now (Happy
Birthday, Abe!!) and will compare the style of writing to an
autobiography of author Beverly Cleary.
