God blessed us with a dry day and a sunny afternoon. The MO Vietnam Wall Replica was a powerful part of our day and the students got to see a beautiful way to honor our military. Plans are to expand the site over the next 5-7 years. I highly recommend a trip there.
Our Lutheran historians were wonderful
storytellers who made the history of the Saxon immigrants come to life for
us. How amazing to see God's care for his people despite many hardships. Students also enjoyed making pizzas that
were baked in the brick oven for us. We tried a few typical chores, and of course the kids favorite play
time and social time on the bus! Thanks to the parents who chaperoned
and helped make the day run smoothly. Thanks to PTL for sponsoring our comfy bus - we rode in style!
Photos from our trip are all mixed up
below. We first were at the MO Veteran's Memorial in Perryville where we saw a video, learned the stories of several people memorialized on the wall, and got to research a vet and find their name on the wall. Then we drove another 30 minutes to Altenburg where we toured Trinity Lutheran Church (c.1867) and the log
cabin that had been the first seminary. We looked at artifacts in the
museum. Finally we headed to Saxon Memorial
where we made lunch and learned about the homestead. Parents - if you
have any good photos, especially of groups, I'd love to share them!
Dates to remember:
Thurs. May 16 PAJAMA DAY! Students may wear school appropriate pajamas to help celebrate the birthday of our wonderful cafeteria worker, Julia!
Friday May 17, Faith Family Field Day
We will eat a picnic lunch, play games, and have one last fun time with our Faith Families! Zion will be providing cheese pizza from Domino's, goldfish and water for the picnic lunch. If your child does not want that lunch or is unable to eat that lunch due to allergies, please have your child bring a cold lunch on Friday, May 17th. Your child will also be spending the afternoon out in the sun, so please apply sunscreen in the morning before your child comes to school. This will also be a SPECIAL SPIRIT DAY your child may wear a Zion/LHS t-shirt and non uniform bottoms!
NO HOT LUNCH - The last week of school, students will need to pack a cold lunch. Mrs. Boettcher will have some goodies for sale as we clean out the kitchen for the summer.
