Week 37 And you shall be my witnesses...

What does Christ's command to his disciples mean to a sixth grader?  (Mt. 28:19-20, Acts 1:8)  This is the topic we explored in our religion classes as we have looked at the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost and early church. As the disciples were instructed to witness in first Jerusalem, then to the neighboring countryside, then to the ends of the earth, we Christians are encouraged to be witnesses where we are at: in our school, workplaces, and families then reach out, even to the ends of the earth.   Where do we get equipped for such a task?  In Word and Sacrament - with the fellowship of believers.

In our last weeks, students had opportunities to learn of the witness of the early disciples.  We researched online devotion to share where students can stay connected to God's Word over the summer. Kids wrote and shared devotions based on contemporary Christian music. (Found in their Google Classrooms).   If you have gotten out of the habit of worship or devotional time with God - this is an opportunity for you, too, to be enriched by the Holy Spirit.  I encourage you to be involved in summer worship both at home and in your travels.   Invite a friend or neighbor.  We, too, have the power of the Holy Spirit and can look for those opportunities for God to use us to spread his word!

May 14, 2021-Olivia K. and Grace I.

As the close of our school year is coming to a close, all of us are

getting antsy for summer vacation!  All throughout the week, hints of

summer, like warm weather, popped through.  All of the students are

enjoying projects about gravity, inertia, and energy in a water slide unit

in Science.  Our creativity is flowing freely in Literature, where we are

learning about Greek mythology, and we are discussing Latin America

in Social Studies.  Our electives have been chosen for the next year,

which included Leadership Development, choir, band, music, strings,

and Computer Science.  Although summer is on the horizon, we are

still soaking up the last bit of knowledge.

Field Day-

From the class bloggers and photographers:

May 7th, Grace and Chloe

This week we started a collage of an animal based on Eric Carle’s art

pieces. To get a preview into his style we watched a short clip from Mr.

Roger's Neighborhood, a childhood favorite of many parents. Along with

a previous windball art project. We have just finished reading Tuck

Everlasting, a book about a mysterious family with a dangerous secret.

The novel was intriguing for most. We read it as a class and had diary

entries and book club discussions throughout the way. One of the book

club jobs was becoming an artist an painting a favorite scene of yours in

Tuck Everlasting. Some kids even experimented with writing creative song

clips on the whiteboard. We have our final Scholastic book order distributed

today. Although lots have already purchased from our Zion annual book fair.

Stay safe and have a nice weekend!
