I hope you had a wonderful Easter Break and celebration of the Risen Lord with your families. Lots of important events:

May 2-9 Best Choice: YELLOW PERMISSION SLIP

In May, we welcome an educator from Best Choice to lead our Religion classes. Through this program, students will be involved in active discussions about setting goals, healthy relationships, puberty, and making God-pleasing decisions. The Best Choice program is designed to encourage children to make lifelong commitments to building relationships, making informed choices, choosing abstinence before marriage, and avoiding risky behaviors.

Mrs. Donner and I will participate in the classes and continue follow up discussions. Look for the yellow permission slip that came home to day. Please return by Tuesday.

To help you prepare for discussions with your child at home, here are the topics Best Choice has used in the past. During the week of lessons, I will update you daily with our discussions. Classes start Tuesday, May 2 for 5 lessons (not Wednesday). I pray that you use these as opportunities to open the dialogue with your child and share your values with them. Research shows parents are still the number one influence on their teens! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

May 5 - STUCO DANCE

Dear Parents and Teachers,

This year’s Spring Dance is on May 5th. The theme for the dance is U.S.A. The Student Council is planning and setting everything up. The dance will be held in Zion’s gym, and the price to get in is $5. The time of the dance is 7 pm, and ends at 9:30. Your kids/students can wear red, white, and blue, and it doesn’t have to be anything too fancy. The student council is providing snacks and drinks for everyone. We hope to see your kids at this year’s Spring Dance!

6^th grade Field Trip: Fri. MAY 12, 2023

Our last field trip will be an extended day trip to Perry County, Missouri. Green permission slips came home today and a white medical form. We will have an opportunity to learn the history of some of the earliest Lutherans to settle in America and how Veterans are honored. Our trip will take us to:

Missouri National Veteran’s Memorial.

This is an exact replica of the D.C. Vietnam Memorial. Students will learn about honoring veterans of all U.S. military branches. Families - if you have a loved one who lost their life in the Vietnam war, please send their name on to Mrs. Riemenschneider by May 2. We would like to honor them by locating their name on the wall.

Lutheran Heritage Center Museum

Here we hear the history and examine artifacts of early Lutheran immigrants, see a Lutheran church from the 1800s and the first seminary in the country.

Saxon Lutheran Memorial

This is an historic homestead where will have an opportunity to not only learn about colonial life, but also try typical chores of the early pioneers. Some possibilities are churning butter, laundry, grinding corn, and trying carpentry tools.

On FRIDAY MAY 12 - Plan on...

Arrival at Zion between 6:30-6:40 AM YES, THAT’S EARLY!!

A comfy charter bus ride, graciously sponsored by our PTL!!!

*An historical tour learning about the earliest Lutherans in America.

*Active participation on the farm (wear Red Zion shirt, athletic bottoms or jeans, shoes/boots, jacket) rain or shine.

*Optional: pillow & book for bus

LUNCH: TBD - Maybe a pizza lunch baked in an 1800s brick oven. Most likely a cold lunch. (snacks and water provided)

Return to Zion at 5:30 P.M. (plan accordingly)

**FUN AND FELLOWSHIP as we learn about honoring our veterans and the spread of the Christian faith in America!!

Parents: We are limited by bus size, so please email homeroom teachers if you are interested in chaperoning by Tuesday. We may draw names if more volunteer than are needed.

Book Orders will be placed Saturday, April 26. There will be one more time in May to order. Let me know if you want me to put a book aside in the office for a gift.
