Week 33 SHINE!

"Shine....make 'em wonder what you've got.  Make 'em wish that they were not, on the outside looking bored.

Shine...make 'em shine before all men.  Make 'em see good works and then, let them glorify the LORD."

---quote from the Newsboys  "Shine"

We had a wonderful opportunity to share God's love on Friday.   It was wonderful to see the kids get out of their comfort zone and talk with the residents at Breeze Park, along with getting down and dirty picking up trash.  One resident saw all the kids in red shirts out her window and asked what was happening.  The Breeze Park worker told them kids from Zion were coming around to clean up their campus.  Her reply, "Oh how nice of them to do that for us!"   We were able to SHINE the light of God's love in many ways!   Thanks so much to the parents who chaperoned with us.

May 6-10  Best Choice:  TAN PERMISSION SLIP

In May, we welcome an educator from Best Choice to lead our Religion classes.  Through this program, students will be involved in active discussions about setting goals, healthy relationships, puberty, and making God-pleasing decisions. The Best Choice program is designed to encourage children to make lifelong commitments to building relationships, making informed choices, choosing abstinence before marriage, and avoiding risky behaviors.

Miss Dubberke and I will participate in the classes and continue follow up discussions.  Look for the tan permission slip that came home Friday.  Please return by Tuesday.

To help you prepare for discussions with your child at home, here are the topics Best Choice has used in the past.   During the week of lessons, I will update you daily with our discussions.  Classes start Monday, May 3 for 4 lessons (not Wednesday).  I pray that you use these as opportunities to open the dialogue with your child and share your values with them.  Research shows parents are still the number one influence on their teens!  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Week 32 Solar Eclipse and LHS play

What an amazing week!   Students had several opportunities to be outside during the time the eclipse began as well as joining the whole school as we saw about 91% totality!  It got noticably darker and cooler as the moon blocked some of the sun's rays.  What an amazing universe our God has created to make this planet the perfect home for his children!  It was special to share this event together.

Friday we saw Act I of the LHS play and celebrated with many Zion alumni in the cast.  We were blown away by the set, costuming and especially the performances.  Way to go LHS! You can see one more performance Saturday night.  Your child received a free ticket to return.

Next week is our standardized testing week and our Shine Servant Event is on Friday.  I will send a separate email out with servant event reminders.  For this week please  remember to have your child:

  • get good sleep
  • eat breakfast
  • be to school on time

Next week also be looking for information on

  • Best Choice program coming in May
  • May 3 Lutheran Heritage field trip    -If you have a connection to someone who lost their life in the Vietnam war, please forward their name on to me.  We can locate it on the wall when we are at the MO Veteran's Memorial.

Check out LOTS of photos from our week!

A camera could not see what we saw - even through the special glasses!
