Visitor, Mysteries, Writing Buddies, and Ski Reminder

On Wednesday, we took a break from learning about cellular division in Science and had Julie W.'s dad come in to talk about his job.  Students got a crash course in the bones of the body and learned about sports injuries.

If you have a career or hobby that might be of interest to our class, please contact me.  I'd love to invite you in to speak!

The bone starts with an "m" and rhymes with andible..."

One student had a great head start on her Cell Cycle foldable

Mysteries
Friday for English, we enjoyed a time of mystery reading.  Students have posted their final mysteries on Kidblog for you to enjoy as well.  We will highlight excerpts from the mysteries in class as we begin moving on to adjectives and adverbs in English.  To read your child's story:

 Writing Buddies

To end our day Friday we headed down to Mrs. Tyler (Miss Bolt)'s 1st grade class.  They are just learning the writing process.  Students were able to help them go from the planning stage to the drafting stage.  It was a good refresher for 6th graders on knowing spelling and capitalization rules.  It was a joy to see the big kids interact with their buddies.  Students had a change to visit together, get to know their pals, and some shared a book.  You can be proud of our class who demonstrated patience and encouragement to the younger ones.  We plan to work with the 1st graders each month this semester.  Thanks to photographer Emma for the great shots!

 Ski Reminder
Our field trip to Hidden Valley will be on Friday, Feb. 6.  Drew's mom (our fourth grade teacher) and I will be the staff chaperones and we have enough parent driver/chaperones to cover the event.  Thank you for volunteering.  Reminder to arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 that day and it is an extended school day.  Return will be 4:30 p.m.

Permission slips will come home this week with detailed information.  We will know more about dress when we know what the temperature will be that day.  Hidden Valley provides ski boots and skis, but if your child has snowpants/ski bibs or the opportunity to borrow some, that is helpful.  When we fall, it keeps us drier!  The students go through a series of stations and progress at their own pace to learn the basics with wonderful instructors.  Don't hesistate to email me with questions!
