Week of excitement

From Class Bloggers Sam V. and Koryn -

This week we were reading Phantom Tollbooth (play)  in literature. In science we did this experiment with this blue stuff and when we blew into it we would see if there was an reaction and Mrs.R had some people  exercise and then blow into the thing with the blue stuff in it to see what the reaction was when we blew into it harder.

Mrs. R's note:  We used an indicator that reacted to carbon dioxide to demonstrate that CO2 is a product of cellular respiration, and its production increases with exercise.

Short Story Writing

Agatha Christe step aside!  Our class has been donning the detective hat and writing mysteries.  Students wrote their first drafts this week and spent time with revision partners to bounce ideas off one another.  Today we looked at the creative writing techniques of "Show-Don't Tell" and "Exploding the Moment"  for adding descriptive detail.  We are finalizing revisions and moving into the proofreading phase next week.  Mini grammar lessons during this unit include punctuation dialogue, interjections, and commas for dependent and independent clauses.

Spelling Bee
Congrats to Ella and Taylor T. for representing the 6th grade at Zion's Spelling Bee today

Reminders:

Open House is Sunday, Jan. 25 from 1-3 p.m.  You may use the postcard sent home today to invite a friend or neighbor to check out Zion!

Re-enrollment forms came home last week.  Take the time to re-enroll this month to help us plan for the new year as we open the doors to the community in February.

Change War for Pastor Sam and the Christian Resource Center in India:
Each classroom will have a tub outside of their door throughout NLSW for students to add change (positive) and dollar bills (negative).  Proceeds will be added to chapel offerings for our mission to India.  The classrooms (prek-3 & 4-8) with the most positive amount by the end of the week will receive a Pizza Party!
