Welcome Back
Happy 2018! We came back to school to
bitter cold and sleepy kids. What a wonderful time to celebrate the
Epiphany of our Lord, as the Good News of the Savior is manifested to
all nations! After exploring the Wisemen's story, we looked at the
fictional account of The Other Wiseman by Henry Van Dike. We
learned about how worship of the Savior can take place by serving our
neighbor.
Here's what's new:
*Drama in Literature - we performed a Native American folktale today to give us a taste of reading scripts and staging. Our unit will focus on the play The Phantom Tollbooth, based on the novel by Norton Juster. A great read full of puns and figurative language!
*Monsoon Asia mapping lab in S.S - Students worked on layering maps to analyze climate, vegetation, population, economic data and physical features. In the next chapters, we will focus on the countries of Bangledesh (human-environment interaction), India (outsourcing and global interconnections), Japan and China (population and density issues as cultures adapt to changing needs). We will also participate in the online mission to Cambodia for National Lutheran Schools week at the end of the month!
*Encaustic Art - the class had a chance to explore texture with a very different media today. Be sure to ask about art!
Came home today:
*An email about reenrollment
*An invitation to Zion's Open House to share
Common Sense for Parents-
Please take 10 minutes to read this article from CommonSenseMedia.org Especially if your child is a fan of youtube videos - it gives parents a heads up on what kids are watching and what conversations you might want to have with your child.
If you ever come across a good parenting resource, please send it my way to post for all.
