We are currently starting a new unit in Social Studies where we will be learning more about the region of Russia and Europe. Over these last few days we've been analyzing different characteristics of this region using different types of maps. In this upcoming weeks we are going to be learning about the European Union and the different forces that result in cooperation and division among the countries who are part of this organization. Current events will be part of this study.
In religion we have started to learn about the events immediately preceding Holy Week and the events that happen during Holy Week. We are examining and discussing the different events that take place and how we can look forward to Holy Week as we are currently in the Lenten season of the church year.
I enjoy the opportunity to continue to get to know each of your children and the opportunity to continually learn myself as I teach different subjects throughout the school day.
From Mrs. R:
Other subject updates: T-Math is finishing ratios with a test Monday. Thanks to parents for helping make the grocery store trip happen as students see real life application! We continue in Ch. 5 with fraction/decimal/percent relationships. G-Math is testing on Coordinate graphing and functions on Wednesday. Up next - geometry. And in Literature, its POETRY TIME! Students have already demonstrated great creativity as we started with nursery rhymes and humorous verse. We've read classics like Maya Angelou, Edgar Allen Poe, and Ogden Nash. Soon, they will get to try their hand at other poetic elements as we celebrate National Poetry Month in April.
By the end of next week, Miss Davis will be adding Literature and G-Math (geometry) to the subjects she is currently teaching so she will be teaching full days. I have been so impressed with her planning and enthusiasm in the classroom. She loves your kiddos! The kids have shown patience and understanding as she learns our routines and the flow of the school week.
Chapel next week:
Volunteers from our class will assist Mrs. R. and lead chapel. You are always invited to join us at chapel, but this may give you an extra special reason. : ) Wednesday: 8:10-8:45 a.m.
As part of our Action Steps in Second Step, Miss Bethany had students role play scenes and volunteers performed. Talking through the decision making process and the positive and negative results of different options has been a great learning experience!
