From the class bloggers:
January 6, 2020- January 10, 2020
By: Aubrey R. and Killian R.
Welcome back from winter break! This was a great way to start out 2020! Monday was a
regular day of school. Tuesday was the Geography Bee. Kraig Scheck won the Geography Bee
and is going to be our schools representative. Alex Riemenschneider got second place and is
our schools runner-up. On Wednesday, we had chapel and we did an activity with our faith
families. Thursday we worked hard and had a wonderful day. Finally, Friday we started a
new art project. We have to make a hamburger with cool textures and weird food combinations.
We had an excellent first week of 2020.

Ameren Energy Kits
Thanks to all of you for taking the time to look through the materials from Ameren UE and Spire. This a a free program to 6th grade students throughout the state of Missouri. As our students had a detailed Science unit on energy and electricity back in September, we took just 2 days to learn about natural resources and conservation. I hope you are able to make use of many of the energy saving devices. I encouraged students to give unused faucet heads, etc. to a family member or neighbor would might be able to use them. Your returning of the Home Worksheet will help ensure the grant program is able to continue in future years (and also possibly win our classroom a $50 Visa Card!)
Book Orders came home today. I will place the order on Saturday, Jan. 18. (link on the right).
Donuts for Dads is Wed. 1/15. Join us in the church basement between 7:00-7:45.
Hidden Valley Permission slips came home today. We will have more detailed clothing discussions as the date approaches. We have drivers covered for this trip.
2 of our new units:
*Drama in Literature - We performed a Native American folktale this week to give us a taste of reading scripts and staging. Our unit will focus on the play The Phantom Tollbooth, based on the novel by Norton Juster. A great read full of puns and figurative language!
*Monsoon Asia mapping lab in S.S - We used Google Earth to help us explore physical
features of our new world region to explore, Monsoon Asia. In the next
chapters,
we will focus on the countries of Bangledesh (human-environment
interaction), India (outsourcing and global interconnections), Japan and
China (population and density issues as cultures adapt to changing
needs). We will also participate in the online mission to Mongolia for
National Lutheran Schools week at the end of the month!

New Member Class
If Lutheran teachings are new to you, we’d like to take some time to tell you about our faith. Our 101: Adult Information Class is for anyone who is interested in understanding the Christian faith as the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod teaches it, and for those who wish to join Zion’s congregation. Taught by the pastors, these sessions cover the basic teachings of the Christian faith, allowing the individuals to compare with his or her own church background. At the end of the class, you will be invited to be confirmed (and baptized if applicable) and join Zion’s congregation.
The next new member class begins January 26, 2020 in the chapel/church library from 9:30-10:15 am. The class will meet each Sunday until confirmation on Sunday, March 15. Please contact Vickie Adams in the church office with questions and/or to RSVP.
