Week 20: Drama Time

January 20, 2023

By Izzy

This week we had the day off on Monday because of Martin Luther King

Junior Day. On Tuesday we had the 4th-8th grade spelling bee. It was

a good match up with some amazing spellers . That morning we also went

into the church to practice for chapel. On Wednesday, we got to lead the

school in worship. Strings played beautifully during offering and we found

out about our new offering mission to buy supplies for kids in India. On

Thursday we played basketball in PE! It was so much fun. On Friday we

started a new art project where we are drawing trees. This week was super

fun and I can’t wait for next week and it’s dress-up days.

AUCTION NEWS!  Thanks to Alex's mom for a great idea on a Book Lover's "basket". This will be a combined donation from both of the 6th grade classses.  We are buying this fun bookshelf and a few middle level books.

We will add things like gift cards to Barnes and Noble, Target, Scholastic, coffee shops, along with a cozy blanket, pillow, etc.  We hope to sweeten the item by including a Kindle, so Mrs. Donner will be collecting monetary donations through Venmo or you can send cash or gift cards in to Mrs. R.  Mrs. Donner's Venmo is

Jennifer-Ann-14.

If you are able to help, please send gift cards or monetary donations BY FRIDAY, FEB 10.  Thanks for helping make this a fun item to bid on!!

MONDAY will be a MOVIE DAY!!  We kick off Lutheran Schools Week with MOVIE DAY watching the film version of the play we read in Literature.  The Phantom Tollbooth.  We will have popcorn or kids can bring in a peanut-free snack and drink (soda allowed) to enjoy during the movie.

JH Winter Dance (repeat)

The 2023 Winter Dance theme is “Turn Back the Clock”!  The dance is scheduled for Friday, February 3 from 7:00 to 9:30 pm.  The entry fee is five dollars per person, and if a student is dropped off, they cannot be picked up before the dance is over.  Expect your student to “turn back the time” and wear an appropriate costume from the past (decades’ day) or wear jeans and a nice shirt.  There are going to be teachers taking pictures, snacks, and music playing.  Make sure that your student knows to be dropped off in front of the commons, the actual dance takes place in the gym, and that the doors will be open by seven.

ZION IS INDIA BOUND!

For Lutheran Schools week, Zion students will have opportunities to learn about children in India as part of our Online Mission project through Lutheran Hour Ministries. 6th graders are using Social Studies class to investigate this amazing country and met our first young person, Sanjina, on Friday.

One of the ways LHMIndia reaches out to individuals is by focusing on the spiritual needs of the younger generation.  Zion is designating our chapel offerings for Jan 25 to go to the Global Kids' Fund and supporting their youth clubs.  Please help us with this special offering project to share the love of God with friends around the world!
