This Wednesday was our first week sitting in Chapel with our Faith Family. This is a group of students from all grades 1-8 and a teacher. We build relationships through chapel, activities, service, and prayer. This week we had our first faith family prayer time. We worked on learning names and getting to know our group and then had some prayer time together.
Rest??
470+ local Lutheran teachers gathered on Zion's campus and heard a wonderful speaker yesterday on the balance of work and rest. God modeled a day of rest, refreshment and worship when He took a "break" from the work of creation. Interesting points:
- Before the the invention of the lightbulb we used to go to bed when it got dark
- Before the 1960s, stores were closed on Sundays (community supported "rest")
- In the 1980s, kids' organized activities really took off
- Now we have 24/7 access to stimulation on our devices
The world views rest as foolish or shameful. But God intended us to balance a healthy amount of stress (work) with time of rest. Rest may never be convenient, but we can be intentional about carving pockets of regular rest into the rhythm of our lives.
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God."
Junior High Walkathon
On
Thursday morning, we had our Walkathon kickoff. Ask the kids about this awesome event! If they can't remember, here's the scoop: Our Walkathon is going to be September 23rd. The
kids ask for pledges for
every mile that child runs/walks or collect a total donation. We are
raising money for Kimber Cares this
year., honoring former Zion teacher Kimber Graham who lost her battle with ovarian cancer.
On the day of the Walkathon, we will be outside from about 12:30 to 2:30 walking and running laps! There will be a water/popsicle station, snack shack, and lots of other free and fun goodies for the kids. It will be an awesome day! PRAY FOR GREAT WEATHER! If you have any questions about this event, let me know! Look for a letter and envelope to come home mid-week!
