Week 5: Walkathon News

From the class bloggers:  Lila and mystery partner

On Monday, we had an English test. On Tuesday, we did dodgeball in PE.

On Wednesday we had chapel and got to sit with our Faith Families along with

computer lab. On Thursday, we had dodgeball in PE again! Today, we began

 our texture burger project!

From Mrs. R.

We have been busy with tests and quizzes! We have a LONG FIRST QUARTER.   If you have not been on Sycamore yet to check grades, think of doing that in the next week and help your child reflect on his or her progress.  (Please give teachers until the school day ends on Monday to update scores from this week .  Also please ask your child first about a particular grade before contacting me, as they likely have information about it. )

When Friday papers come home, encourage your child to pick the work they are most proud of and share with you why.   Also look for something which they might set a goal:  reading directions more carefully, studying vocabulary, asking questions in class, neater handwriting, taking an A.R. test.  Every child grows at a different pace and we can celebrate the learning that takes place each day!

Please don't hesitate to contact teachers with questions you may have.  Waiting until our Oct. 27 conference at the end of the quarter is not ideal if we can address a question sooner!

WALKATHON IS FRIDAY!!

Dear parents,

Our Walkathon service project takes place next Friday, September 23rd. The students are always excited for the fun afternoon we have planned for them. Pray for a beautiful weather day for us!

The Walkathon is our unified service project for grades 6th - 8th. This project includes the fundraiser (happening now), writing cards of encouragement to cancer patients (Winter time), and a children’s book drive (new books) in the Spring.

This year, we are sponsoring Kimber Cares (https://www.kimber-cares.com/) in honor of Mrs. Graham. This organization supports Small Cell Ovarian Cancer research as well as the two schools Mrs. Graham worked at, Beulah Ralph Elementary and Zion! Our donations will go towards an outdoor classroom at Zion and support at Beulah Ralph and cancer patients as well.

We have set our goal to surpass last year's donations of just over $7,000 and we would love to see 100% participation form our junior high students! Look for a purple pledge sheet that was sent home a couple of weeks ago and help your students do what they can in order to raise some money for a great cause. Donations are due September 30th.

There is a Chick-fil-a lunch incentive for an individual from each homeroom who raises the most money, and for one who runs the most laps.

On the day of the Walkathon, students can wear spirit shirts and athletic bottoms. Plan to have your child wear sunscreen as well. All students should bring a reusable water bottle.

Thank you for being a part of our mission this year. We couldn't do it with your support.

Blessings,
The Junior High staff
