Week 7: Rocket launch and Walkathon!

We had a beautiful day for both the 8th grade Rocket Launch and the Walkathon.  Our students enjoyed fellowship, snacks, and a whole lot of exercise as we walked for Hurricane Harvey victims and Kids with Cancer.  I asked the students to set a personal goal:  visit with someone new, pray as they walked, set a mileage goal, and to bring in a donation for these wonderful causes.  Special recognition - the 2 top runners in the school were in our class!  Great job, Charlie and Calvin!  Students should bring donations this week.

Information also came home from Mackenzie's grandma about a book drive for a school in Port Aransas who lost everything in Harvey.  We will be collecting new and gently used books, for any age child.  I will donate all of the "free books" from this weeks Scholastic book order to add to what the students bring in.

Field trip Friday, Oct. 13

Field trip permission slips came home on Thursday for our Weldon Spring Interpretive Center/Bowling field trip.  This is an exciting opportunity to learn about environmental cleanup in our area and to do a PE activity that we cannot provide on campus.  The kids will also learn about bowling scoring in math.

We are seeking parent drivers to join us for the day.  Parents need to have a current driver background check on file.  Please email me or indicate on the permission slip if you are able to attend and the number of students you could drive.  If we have more parents than needed, I will draw names on Wednesday.

Online resources:

In Computer lab this week, students used Thinking Blocks: Addition/Subtraction to help them visualize word problems.  This prepares them to understand using a variable for the unknown.  Try a few!

Looking for a way to help your child learn memory?  Or maybe you want to work on keeping more of God's words in your heart and on your mind.  Try the app: ScriptureTyper.
