Week 8: 2nd Step, Field Trip next Friday

From the class bloggers: Carsyn and Ellie

This week has been very good. We had a half day which was good because I got more time at home.
Art was fun, we had to finish our tesselation art with positive and negative space. We are learning about current, voltage, watts, and how to add them together. We had a little bit of tests like Literature, Geography, Math, and Science. In G Math we were learning about algebra expressions, and in T Math we were learning about rounding decimals, and estimating.

From Mrs. R:

WELDON SPRING/ST. CHARLES LANES FIELD TRIP
Friday is the day!!

Reminders:  Cold lunch, jeans, red Zion shirt, jacket

We will hike the disposal cell in the morning when the weather is chillier, so dress approriately!
Thanks to Dominic, Grace, Nate, Blake, and Maddie's parents for driving and chaperoning for us.  Plan to meet in the front of JH at 8:30.  I'll send an itinerary for drivers home next week.

Oct. 18 is Parent Teacher Conference day.  I look forward to sitting down with you to talk about your child!  You will receive an email on Monday to sign up for a time through Sycamore to meet with me.  In Junior High, we sign up with the homeroom teacher for a 15 minute conference.  Be aware as you schedule that if you have children in different buildings that you allow "travel time."

2nd Step-

At 2nd step this week we looked at Respectful Disagreement.  Kids got to role play and talked about how practicing communication skills can help us get better at them!  Some skills were easier and others were harder to use:

How wonderful that God gives us the ability to repent when we fail at communication. How wonderful to be able to forgive one another!  This skills are great for us to model with our kids as I know I have gotten upset and not thought of my children's perspectives or feelings.  Apologizing to your own children can be humbling, but a wonderful way to help validate their feelings and help them learn to forgive as God forgives.

Calling Drew’s Avengers!

On Wednesday, October 24 we will be having a special chapel offering.  In honor of Drew Albrittons’ 9th birthday, we will be collecting superhero items that will be delivered to Friends of Kids with Cancer.

Drew was a preschooler here at Zion who bravely fought cancer and now is with the biggest superhero of all, Jesus!

Please bring your superhero items to chapel on Wednesday, October 24.  Action figures, costumes, toys, movies, backpacks, Lego sets, video games, shirts, or any items with a super hero theme are all welcome.
