Week 26: Student teacher and LOTS of news!!

We had a busy Friday with our Heart Challenge - Rope jumping event.  I had fun jumping a little with the kids and feel pretty proud to have made lasting into the final 3 in a  Knock Out competition.  Thanks to our wonderful PE teacher, Mrs. Steinbacher, who finds creative ways to make fitness fun for all!  Scroll to the bottom for a few pictures.

Welcome Miss Davis
We welcome a student teacher from Concordia University in Seward, NE to our classroom on Monday, March 1 through April 26.  Miss Hannah Davis will be completing her student teaching practicum with me.  We look forward to having Miss Davis as a teacher in our class!

Field Trip- The Giver, this Friday
Thanks to all the parents who have volunteered to get us to LHS on Friday morning.  We will send a reminder to you this week, but plan to drop off as normal, grab a coffee, and return by 8:20 to take the crew to LHS.  The bus will bring us back to Zion around 11:15.

We are seeing the play, The Giver, based on Lois Lowry's novel.  Here is a synopsis:

The Giver is a story of a brilliant boy named Jonas who happens to live in a society that is being controlled by the rules and tradition of The Elders.  Through his wisdom and mannerism, Jonas is selected as the Receiver of Memory, a post that distinguishes him from others and gives him authority. He follows the rules and receives wisdom in the form of memories, but soon becomes upset with the rules. He is shocked at the killing of babies and others.  Jonas, finally, wants to get rid of this society and saves the baby that is being released or killed by his father. The two go to Elsewhere to in search of freedom, hope, life and colors.   www.barnesandnoble.com

It’s a Dino-Mite Book Fair

Zion’s Annual Book Fair is coming up!  It’s going to be Dino-Mite!  All proceeds will benefit the Zion School Library.  This year, our All For Books donations will help the The Arch Community School, the charter school at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Louis.

NEW this year is the option for parents and kids to pay with the Book Fair eWalletMany parents don’t carry cash anymore, or have cash on hand when their child delivers the news… “Mom! Dad! It’s Book Fair day!”  The eWallet is a digital payment option offered through Scholastic that gives parents a safer alternative to sending their children to school with cash.  It’s easily funded using a credit card, but with the convenience of setting a spending limit.   See the flyer in Friday Folders on how to set up your students’ eWallet by visiting http://www.scholastic.com/bf/zionlutheranschool4

This must be done prior to their class’ visit to the book fair in order to be utilized.

Book Fair Hours

Wednesday, 3/6 (Class Visit Day/ Ash Wednesday)   8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, 3/7 (PS/ K Grandparents Day)    8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Friday, 3/8 (1-8 Grandparents Day)   8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Diary of An Awesomely Friendly Kid Pre-Sale

Our students also have the opportunity to pre-order a specially priced paperback edition of Jeff Kinney’s new book series, Diary of An Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson’s Journal.  To order your copy, complete the pre-sale form and either return it to your child’s teacher with payment (don’t forget the tax!) or send the order form with your student on their book fair day.  Order Forms will come home on March 1st. The book is scheduled for release on 4/9/19, and the students should receive their copy within 5-7 days.
