Week 12: Novel Unit

 From the class bloggers:

This week we started our advent rehearsals. On November 15 we’re bringing food for the seminary students. 6th grade is bringing canned chicken/tuna & peanut butter. In the gym we played toga, zombie tag, and started cup stacking. The 8th graders did a rocket launch, it was really fun to watch. G math had a math quiz on Friday and an English test on Tuesday. In religion we are learning about reformation. In science we’re learning about population. I hope everyone had a good week.

From Mrs. R.

WHAT IF...

...the government could force you to sell land?

...we had laws on what you could grow on your farm? or that said NO PETS ALLOWED?

...your family was limited to one or two children?

Would you exist?

I hope talks about our Literature novel have popped up in your family conversations.  Students began the novel, Among the Hidden by Margaret Petersen Haddix, and I have to put a STOP sign in the novels to get them to put it down.  Through the novel we discuss literary elements like characterization and conflict, but also propaganda, morals, and faith.

Veteran's Day Chapel - Nov. 10

Zion will be hosting a Veteran's day Chapel service on Friday, November 10 beginning at 8:15 a.m.  Any veterans are welcome to attend this service.  Please invite the special veterans in your lives.

Book orders came home today.  I will place an order online on Sunday, Nov. 11.  Please let me know if you want me to put an order aside in the office for you as a gift.  I'm great at keeping a secret!

Seeking Library Volunteers

Looking to help out once a month?  Grandma or Grandpa want to pitch in?  The sixth grade library time slots need filling.  Duties include checking in/out books with a simple bar code scanner, shelving books, and embarassing your child by giving them a big kiss in front of their friends. World Cup Stacking Days

Dear Parents,

I am excited about the Sport Stacking unit we are currently doing in PE.  Sport Stacking is an exciting sport where students stack and unstack 12-specially designed cups (Speed Stacks) in specific patterns. Sport Stacking uses both sides of the body and brain developing important athletic and academic skills. For more information go to speedstacks.com (Learn to Stack).

Zion will be participating in the World Sport Stacking Days where we will attempt to help set a new world record for the most people sport stacking at various locations. The current record which we helped to set last year is 737,863. It would be very helpful to have parent volunteers on the following days:
