What's happening in 6th grade?

Religion - Exploring the OT tabernacle and the design of Zion's sanctuary and church furnishings.  The importance of the word "tabernacle" meaning to dwell with us as God lives with and guides his people.   Ask your child about our scavenger hunt today.  I forgot the camera.

English - Verb tenses - there are 6?  And I thought it was just past, present, and future.  We had some fun with creating writing and turkeys and verb tenses.

Literature - Introducing theme.  We have read two stories looking at kids from other cultures and the challenges they face, one as a Chinese immigrant and the other a migrant farm worker.

TMath -  Solving one step algebraic equations.  Students had a chance to log in to the textbook website and view a review tutorial video.  A great resource to use at home too!

Science -  Introduction to microscopes to begin our cells unit.  Watch for an at home project to come in December modeling a cell.  May be time to save odds and ends that could make a good Gogli body.

Social Studies - We have explored Human Environment interaction in the Great Lakes Ecosystem and held a class debate over whether things have improved since the 1969 fire on the Cayahoga River.  Students are learning how to create Prezis to share data by combining text, photos, and video.

REMINDER:  Our Advent service is right around the corner.  DEC. 3 at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  We are looking forward to sharing the message of salvation with you!

Helping Our Young Friends

On Monday we joined Miss Limback's Kindergarten and Mrs. Stanglein's Preschool classes on a hunt for "Pete the Cat's" school shoes.  It was a joy to see the sixth graders holding hands, kneeling down to talk, and encouraging the little ones.
