Week 35: Faith Family & Field Trip

Faith Families

We meet as Faith Family once a month to pray and do an activity.  During the prayer time this year we have been focusing on spending 5 minutes each day praying.  Our activity this month was based on 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Be Thankful in ALL Circumstances.  We wrote thank you notes to the many volunteers that help our school.  We ending our time celebrating baptism birthdays for May and June.  We look forward to our last Faith Family event, FIELD DAY!  (see article at the end)

Year End Field Trip -

Our big class trip is FRIDAY!  The weather is looking wonderful!  Please remember that the lunch fee will be deducted from Smart Tuition and teachers will provide water bottles and all other snacks.

Also - if your child may get carsick on a bus ride, please have them take any needed medication in the morning and let me know so we can seat them accordingly on the bus.  Contact me with any other questions.

Friday, May 11 will be our Lutheran Heritage Field trip.  This is an extended day, arriving at 6:40 a.m. and returning at 5:30 p.m. that evening.  Please mark your calendars accordingly.  We will be studying immigration, geneology, and the history of Lutherans in our area.  Our day will include a trip to the Altenburg Museum and Saxon Lutheran Memorial in Frohna, MO.  This is a colonial homestead where students will learn about the first Lutheran settlers, tour the homestead, and have an opportunity for trying chores such as laundry and grinding corn.  Our day includes seeing the first Concordia Seminary and a one room schoolhouse.

Delivery to CFNA

A special thank you to Avery's mom for taking a group down to the Peace Center in St. Louis to deliver our Welcome Kits.

"We met a group of girls that dance there with a multicultural volunteer dance teacher and a group of children getting tutoring.  We met a physician volunteering in the computer lab and a LHS teacher as well as a retired teacher helping some middle school children.  In the older children’s room we met a teacher that went to college with Pastor Schwab and he was a teacher at LHS South for 35+ years."

Mrs. W. is interested in looking into volunteer opportunities at the Peace Center this summer.  Parents, contact her if your child would be interested.

Second Step

We wrapped up our Second Step lessons reviewing the character skills we have learned all year.  Students created skits on every day decisions using one character as the "conscience" who narrated the skills they would use:  seeing another's perspective, disagreeing respectfully, pausing and calming down, being an ally, thinking of the consequences, and many more.  As we shared skits, we remembered we also have the skill of prayer and the true conscience that guides us is the Holy Spirit who empowers us to show love and concern for others and make God-pleasing choices.

Field Day

On Friday, May 18th, students in grades 1-8 will participate in a “Faith Family Field Day”.  We will eat a picnic lunch, play games, and have one last fun time with our Faith Families!  Zion will be providing cheese pizza from Domino's, goldfish and water for the picnic lunch.  If your child does not want that lunch or is unable to eat that lunch due to allergies, please have your child bring a cold lunch on Friday, May 18th.  Your child will also be spending the afternoon out in the sun, so please apply sunscreen in the morning before your child comes to school.  This will also be a SPECIAL SPIRIT DAY your child may wear a Zion/LHS t-shirt and non uniform bottoms! (appropriate length please - no legging/yoga style pants)  Thanks!
