Week 4: Walkathon coming

From the class bloggers: Alyssa and Xavier

September  7,2019

Monday was Labor Day, so we had no school.  Tuesday we worked on climate zones in Social
Studies. Wednesday we had chapel. Thursday we had an English test on prepositions, simple,
compound, and complete subjects and predicates. It also covered fragments and run-on
sentences. On Friday we had a Science test on electricity. We also are working on our
Glue Fish art project.

Walkathon, Friday, Sept. 27

Our first JH Walkathon was held after Hurricane Katrina.  Now our students are joining efforts for another great cause. We will be supporting the Birthday Project, collecting funds to host birthday parties for kids in homeless shelters.  This is a local effort for children right here in St. Louis.  Kids learned about our walkathon at the kickoff assembly this morning.  We "cancel" classes that Friday afternoon and set the kids loose to run and walk for the cause.  Students may begin raising pledges now and are encouraged to self-pledge as well.  No money is due until after the walk.

A FEW HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEK:

Religion:  Law/Gospel, Genesis: Creation - not evolution!!

2nd Steps: Active listening, what is empathy

Math: PEMDAS  (ask your child)

Social Studies:  Earth/Sun relationship and how God created our seasons and climates
Literature:  Comparing Fiction/NonFiction and using predicting skills reading websites

Field Trip: Drivers needed Sept. 20

On Friday, Sept 20 we head to Weldon Spring Interpretive Center to learn about energy, environmental clean up, and stewardship of our natural habitats.  After a picnic lunch we head to Harvest Lanes to bowl.  We are in need of parent drivers to join us for the day, from 8:40 - 2:45.

Please email me if you are interested in chaperoning with how many students you could drive.  You will need a current driver background check.  Contact Michelle Thomason in the church office to see if you need an update.

Further information and permission slips will come out as the date approaches.
