Week 20: Drama Time!

From the Class Blogger: January 21, 2022    Sophia

This week was fun and exciting! On Tuesday we acted the Phantom of the

Tollbooth class, and we brought props. On Wednesday we lead the chapel

service. The chapel service was about the fruit of the Spirit, and how each

part of the body makes all one in the body of Christ. On Friday, Mrs. Donner

assigned a new fun art project. The art project was paper mache with water

 and plaster.

FRIDAY will be a MOVIE DAY!!  On Jan. 28 we will the movie version of the play we read:  The Phantom Tollbooth.   Kids can bring in a peanut-free snack and drink (soda allowed) to enjoy during the moving.  What a great way to end Lutheran Schools Week!

 Looking for a good read?

Mark Twain Nominated books are a great way to get AR points for the 3rd and 4th quarter. If your student reads 4 of these nominated books, they can actually vote for which books wins the award in our state. Contact your local library, and place some of these books on reserve. They are chosen by librarians as some of the best new books.  I've read 7 so far and they are all good!

Use the website for more info on specific books.  NOTE: The 2021 Winner Blended will be a 6th grade novel read in February.   Mark Twain Booklist    Mark Twain trailer video

Valentine's Day

We will celebrate Valentine's Day with a class party on Friday, Feb. 11.   At this age, bringing Valentines is OPTIONAL but if your child wishes to, please bring one for each student in our homeroom. Also note, according to school policies, students may not bring in candy to pass out and personal gift exchanges may not happen on campus (as noted in the Family Handbook - see Sycamore - Documents).

JH Winter Dance (Repeat)
The 2022 Winter Dance theme is Hollywood! The dance is scheduled for Friday, January 28th from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. The entry fee is five dollars per person, and if a student is dropped off, they cannot be picked up before the dance is over. Expect your student to wear something like jeans and a nice shirt (not incredibly formal). There are going to be teachers taking pictures, snacks, and music playing. The snacks may include CapriSuns, popcorn, gummy bears, and soda. Make sure that your student knows to be dropped off in front of the commons, the actual dance takes place in the gym, and that the doors will be open by seven. See ya there!
