Week 19: End of 2nd Q

Students celebrate the halfway mark of 6th grade!  I am so proud of their hard work.  I see growth in so many ways.  Teachers are finalizing grades and report cards come home next Friday.  It is a good time to sit down with your child and ask of what they are most proud.  We are enjoying lessons on drama, fractions, factor trees, adverbs, Asia, cells and Jesus calling his disciples.  So much learning going on!

 CHAPEL 1/18

6R will help lead chapel this week.  Volunteers are reading liturgy, Bible readings, prayers, acting in a chancel drama.  Others are supporting us with prop help and prayers as this is coming together pretty quickly!  Strings will play for the service as well.  You are invited to attend.  Chapel is from 8:10-8:45 on Wednesday.

No Skiing this year! Mrs. Donner and I were sad to learn that Hidden Valley is not continuing their field trip program this year.  This has been a tradition at Zion for over 25 years, so it is devastating to see it go.  We are seeking other field trip opportunities.  Mark the date of May 12 as an extended day for our Lutheran Heritage field trip

JH Winter Dance

The 2023 Winter Dance theme is “Turn Back the Clock”!  The dance is scheduled for Friday, February 3 from 7:00 to 9:30 pm.  The entry fee is five dollars per person, and if a student is dropped off, they should not be picked up before the dance is over.  Expect your student to “turn back the time” and wear an appropriate costume from the past (decades’ day) or wear jeans and a nice shirt.  There are going to be teachers taking pictures, snacks, and music playing.  Make sure that your student knows to be dropped off in front of the commons, the actual dance takes place in the gym, and that the doors will be open by seven.  See ya there!

MARK TWAIN NOMINEES

Looking for a new AR read?  MO Librarians select the best new titles for grades 4-6 each year.  The titles are shared then for students to vote on their favorite - one title to win the Mark Twain Award.  Check out the trailers for this year's books.   Thanks to our amazing librarians Lila's mom and Stella's mom for making our library fun and encouraging reading!  (I love reading these books myself- they are great for adults, too!)

National Lutheran Schools Week is Jan 22-27 - Dress days
