Week 32 Camp Wartburg

What an amazing day we had!  God blessed us with beautiful weather and a great experience bonding with our classmates.  Students learned to think creatively, challenge themselves to conquer obstacles (mud? the Wall??), and encourage one another.  Even when the van broke down and we had to adjust - students supported one another and made the best of things when life doesn't always go as planned.  I treasure this group of students and I hope many memories were made.  Thanks to all the parent chaperones - we couldn't have done it without you!

Parents, there will be some sort of slideshow/file with all pictures that we will share by the end of next week with pictures from Camp Wartburg. The pictures I have are limited to only a certain few students since they were in my group. I will post them below and also include them in the slideshow/file. Check out the link to Mrs. Donner's blog for a few more pics.

Spring Dance 2022
Student Council would like to let you know in advance the details of this year's Junior High Spring Dance. The dance will take place on May 6 from 7:00 to 9:30PM. The theme for this dance will be glow in the dark/neon, and students can dress up to fit this theme by wearing a neon or white t-shirt with a pair of jeans or sweats! Junior High students must pay a five dollar entry fee, must go to Zion Lutheran School to attend, and are not permitted to leave until the dance is over. They are allowed to bring phones but we ask that they put them away after the first forty-five minutes have passed so that we can have some fun! We are excited to host another successful dance this year!

Best Choice
At the beginning of May, we welcome an educator from Best Choice to lead our Religion classes. Through this program, students will be involved in active discussions about setting goals, healthy relationships, puberty, and making God-pleasing decisions. The Best Choice program is designed to encourage children to make lifelong commitments to building relationships, making informed choices, choosing abstinence before marriage, and avoiding risky behaviors.

Mrs. Donner and I will participate in the classes and continue follow up discussions. A permission slip will come home MONDAY, APRIL 25 to sign and return for your child to participate. To help you prepare for discussions with your child at home, here are the topics Best Choice has used in the past. I will update you daily with our discussions. Classes start Monday, May 9. I pray that you use these as opportunities to open the dialogue with your child and share your values with them. Research shows parents are still the number one influence on their teens! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

  • Monday: Goals, Risky Behaviors, and Decision Making
  • Tuesday:  Respect, Friendships, Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships, Refusal Skills
  • Thursday: Male/Female Puberty
  • Friday: Media Influence, Emotional Consequences, Boundaries, Avoidance Techniques

VBS- VBS this year is in person June 20-24 and 6th graders can be helpers!  Please chat with your child and if they are able to volunteer we would love to have their help!
